Shaver Lake is located on the western slopes of the central Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, between Yosemite National Park and Sequoia National Park.

Shaver Lake is one of the most popular lakes within the Sierra National Forest. Owned and operated by Southern California Edison Co., it provides opportunities for boating, camping, hiking, fishing, sightseeing and a great mountain experience. During winter months, downhill skiing and snowboarding are offered at Sierra Summit Mountain Resort, and cross country skiing, sledding, and snowmobiling are very popular at the various Sno Parks located between Shaver Lake and Huntington Lake.

Shaver Lake is the central hub to Huntington Lake, Florence Lake, Lake Edison, Dinkey Creek, Courtright Reservoir, and Wishon Reservoir, as well as the Kaiser Wilderness, Ansel Adams Wilderness, John Muir Wilderness, and Dinkey Lakes Wilderness.
